Morning light

Every day is a new day.  Wake up early and catch the morning light.
Remember there is always a chance to begin anew.  Renewed.

Potential: One Seed

Peas.  Plant them.  Watch them.  Pick them.  Eat them.

Wonder about the possibilities of planting one seed.

Let it flow

There is a creek that lines the outer limit of the garden. I like to call it a creek. It somehow sounds romantic. Grand. Rural. The truth is, "my creek" is merely a drainage trench that catches the water from the suburban development up the road. The water table is high and when the house was built the trench was dug to drain the swamp from the back yard. That doesn't sound very exciting. I prefer to think of my creek as a little river in the back yard. I even made a little rock beach by the river bank. The water is encouraged to flow through the wetlands, joining a similar stream that cuts under the road and through the woods until it reaches the Mill Pond a mile from the house. I like to stand by the creek and hear it babble. I hear my children's voices when they were young. I love the sound of children playing their imaginary games in a giant rhododendron. I love how the sound of the water relaxes, quiets and soothes. Perfect white noise. Point of focus. Empty thoughts. Images of pushing through. Forging on. Gently moving along. Never stopping. Never quitting. Somehow in the simplicity of the moment it all makes sense.

Follow your bliss

What makes you happy?
Sometimes remembering the things you enjoyed when you were young may help.
Ice skating, swinging, baking, petting an animal, swimming, gardening, crafting, talking to a friend, hiking, praying.
Do what makes you happy.

Be what makes you happy.

Try to love the questions themselves...

"...Try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language.  Don't search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them.  And the point is to live everything.  Live the questions now.  Perhaps then someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer."
- Rainer Maria Rilke.

Five little robin chicks.

sneaking two peaks over the three days

Their eyes are open on day two.

Looking around.

These little guys are getting squished on day four from the first photo below.  And I just noticed that there are five chicks total!  The little guy in the front is getting smooshed.

Shady garden

Saint Elizabeth

We found this statue in the garden when we moved in.  The statue is in honor of Gabe's wife, who died during the birth of her fourth daughter.  Saint Elizabeth is the patron saint of midwives.

More loam to move.

Japanese maple

Sweet little maple tree lost about half of itself during the hurricane.
It still lives on.

Sunrise, a chance to begin again.

Welcome sunrise.
You remind me of the new day.
A chance to begin anew.
Renewed.
